BOSTON AND BANGOR STEAMSHIP CO.
New York: Currier and Ives, 1883. 3¼ x 6.” Color lithograph card with black and white text on reverse. Very good. Item #3759
This very attractive trade card for the Boston and Bangor Steamship Company features a delightful scene of the steamship Penobscot underway with other sailing craft and a lighthouse providing nautical accents. The reverse of the card provides a narrative format sailing timetable of the line’s steamers (Penobscot, Cambridge, Katahdin, Mt. Desert and Rockland) between Boston and Mt. Desert. “Commencing June 1st (and until Oct. 13, 1883), one of the palatial steamers of this line will leave Lincoln’s Wharf, foot of Battery Street, Boston, every day (except Sundays), at 5 o’clock P.M., for Bangor, Mt. Desert, and intermediate landings on Penobscot Bay and River.”
Thompson describes this as “a very scarce trade card, one of only a few printed by Currier and Ives.”
