Berkeley(?): The California Club. Artist: S. Lachman. 1939. Image area about 25 ¼ x 20 ½.” Light edge wear; very good. Item #3728
Of this map, Rumsey notes: “An uncommon and most pleasingly designed map, showing the state of California with the seven university campuses identified with banners which list the special features of each. The lettering around the border lists the many areas of study, from librarianship to law.” The campuses identified are: Berkeley, Davis, La Jolla, Los Angeles, Mount Hamilton, Riverside, and San Francisco. The map was sponsored by The California Club in commemoration of the Golden Gate International Exposition.
A very nice example of an attractive and fairly uncommon pictorial map. OCLC notes seven locations, all but two of which are University of California components.
