[New York.]: F.W. Beers & Co., [1871.]. Original hand color. Folds as issued. Three small fold intersection breaks mended on reverse with archival tape. A very good example. Item #3628
This wonderful, large map of the eastern portion of Portland, Maine appeared in Beers' Atlas of Cumberland County, Maine, published in New York in 1871. It is on a scale of 1:1,800 and shows property ownership (a "cadastral map"). The map encompasses all of the Eatern Promenade and Munjoy Hill and goes west as far as Washington Street. Among the features identified are the Observatory, Portland Company's Works, a few wharves at the eastern end of the harbor and the County Jail. A very nicely detailed and well-preserved map of Portland from 1871.
