This view captures the arch erected in Boston on the occasion of the new President's visit to the city in October, 1789. The arch was positioned across the street in front of the State House. The inscription visible above the middle gate reads: "To the man who unites all hearts." A wonderful visual record of Washington's visit to Boston during his post-election tour.
